Ueli Berger (1937 - 2008)
Ueli Berger (1937-2008) was a Swiss designer and artist whose work oscillated between functionality and experimentation. Trained at the Bern School of Fine Arts, he first gained recognition in painting and sculpture before turning to design, developing a bold and playful approach. His most iconic work remains the Cloud Sofa (1972), designed in collaboration with his wife and creative partner, Susi Berger. Inspired by the organic form of clouds, this modular sofa embodies the free-spirited aesthetic of the 1970s. He also worked with De Sede, the Swiss high-end furniture manufacturer, to create sculptural and ergonomic pieces. Throughout his career, Berger explored the boundaries between art and design, incorporating playful and poetic elements into his creations. His work is now featured in several design collections, attesting to his lasting influence.
