Set of Two "Ondes" Sunbreak Panels (c.1960) by Jean Prouvé
This rare set features two painted wooden uprights equipped with Prouvé's patented clamping system, supporting corrugated and perforated aluminum sheets. The distinctive "wave" pattern of the aluminum not only adds a striking visual element but also reflects Prouvé's commitment to functional, adaptable design.
Originally conceived for schools in Cameroon in 1964, these façade panels were designed to meet the challenges of tropical climates. Their perforations and corrugated structure allow for effective air circulation and natural light diffusion while ensuring privacy and protection from heavy rain - a testament to Prouvé's mastery of combining aesthetics with practicality.
Today, these versatile panels can also serve as striking room dividers, adding a sculptural and architectural presence to contemporary interiors.
Produced by Ateliers Prouvé, 1964.
