"Labradorite is inspired by the rugged coastline of eastern Newfoundland, where I spent six weeks in August 2024 on an artist residency.
I was drawn to the ancient geology of the landscape, particularly the exposed rock and the way land and sea meet along the coastline. Labradorite, a mineral associated with the region, became a starting point for the painting and a way of connecting the work to the particular geology of this place.
The painting is a response to the rawness and scale of the Newfoundland landscape, and to the sense of deep time held within its rocks."
