"
Inspired by the coastline of Newfoundland, this painting is made with Indian ink and acrylic on copper sheet.
The small rocks scattered through the sea reminded me of a shoal of fish, suggesting the cod that once filled these waters and shaped the lives and communities of Newfoundland. The image is an abstracted echo of an industry that is no longer what it once was.
The copper surface adds another dimension to the work, its warmth and reflectivity contrasting with the cool, shifting forms of the sea. The painting becomes both a response to the landscape and a quiet acknowledgement of what has been lost."
