The Porringer has a slightly everted rim and is decorated, on the lower half of the main body, with a raised detailed band of both palm and acanthus leaves, which was a popular design at this date.  The front of the main body is also engraved with the contemporary initials I C interspersed with stylised tulip motifs, a reference to when Charles II was in exile in Holland after the execution of his father, Charles I, when England was under the puritanical rule of Oliver Cromwell.  Charles was restored as King Charles II in 1660.  The initials are surrounded by a beautiful crossed plume cartouche, which was also a popular form of engraving at this date.  The Porringer displays two cast and applied scroll side handles and is fully marked on the side and, unusually, with the maker’s mark again on the base.   This piece was sold by our founder, Mary Cooke, in the 1990's and is in quite excellent condition, with an outstanding colour.
