The Nutmeg Grater is modelled in a large broad rectangular form, three times the size of a conventional grater. We have photographed it with a normal size grater to show how unusual the size is. The cover and sides are decorated with prick dot and bright cut borders and the cover displays a central rectangular cartouche containing a set of contemporary Georgian script initials. We date the box circa 1800 and the inside of the cover is clearly marked with a crisp IB maker's mark in an oval punch. The base has a bottom opening and is also engraved to simulate a trick second opening, with engraved bands to simulate a second hinge. The base also displays the same engraved outer border as seen on the cover and two outer floral sprays. The box is in excellent condition and has an interior steel grater.
