Silver mounted Claret Jugs from the workshops of Paul Storr are extremely rare and this piece represents a most outstanding example.  The silver gilt mounts are cast and the handle has been modelled to simulate a twisted vine.  The neck and cover is overlaid with vine leaves and grapes, all on a matted ground.  The hinged cover terminates in a grape finial.  The quality of the casting of the mounts is quite outstanding.  The heavy bulbous glass base displays facetted bands and a beautiful star cut base.  This piece is in excellent condition and is well marked on the body mounts and the cover.  The mounts are marked with the King's Head Duty mark of William IV, so must have been made before the accession of Queen Victoria.

Height, to the top of the handle: 11.5 inches, 28.75 cm.

Diameter at the widest point: 6 inches, 15 cm.
