This very fine Box is modelled in an unusual deep square form. The cover is engraved with prick dot roundels around a vacant rectangular cartouche. The sides are engraved with horizontal prick dot and wriggle work bands and the base has a hinged opening decorated with a central flower head, surrounded by prick dot and wriggle work frames. This piece is very well marked, displays its original steel grater and has a serpentine shaped thumb piece. Charles Rawlings was an exceptional box maker and this is seen with this nutmeg grater.
