This quite exceptional gold mounted agate box has slightly incuse sides and a slightly domed cover. The agates are beautifully shaded and the base displays a reeded gold band mount. The rim of the cover displays the same reeded mounts, as shown on the base, and a serpentine shaped thumb piece. The cover is overlaid with exceptional cage work, displaying cascading scrolls and floral trellis work designs, similar to those which were made by the Spitalfield Silk Weavers at the same date. The centre, unusually, displays a reclining cupid, so that this may well have been given as a love token. This is one of the finest Gold mounted Snuff Boxes we have offered and its condition is exceptional, with very crisp decoration.
