Catherine Matte
Catherine Matte, known as CMatte, is a painter born in Quebec City in 1981. In her earliest memories, art has always been a part of her life. As a child, she explored various artistic mediums. After completing high school, she enrolled in the Jewelry Arts program at the École des Métiers d'art du Cégep de Limoilou in Quebec City, graduating in May 2001.
That same year, she participated in the International Young Fashion Designers Competition, earning first place in Canada in the "Accessories" category. She pursued her craft for approximately ten years, taking part in artisan markets and selling her creations in a boutique in Old Quebec.
Alongside her jewelry practice, Ms. Matte worked as a dental ceramist in a renowned laboratory in Quebec City. Her art found expression through people's smiles.
In 2016, while on maternity leave following the birth of her second child, her desire to create resurfaced. She returned to the visual arts, turning to acrylic painting on canvas.
Her work is distinguished by the use of vibrant colors, fluid forms, and bold contrasts, inviting contemplation and emotion. Each piece emerges from a creative instinct and a desire to tell stories without words, leaving room for personal interpretation. She seeks to create powerful and evocative images, existing at the boundary between dream and reality.
