Designer
Set of six "Costes" armchairs designed by Philippe Starck for Aleph Driade, Italy, circa 1984.
Tubular black lacquered steel frame, curved plywood shell with black finish, fixed cushions upholstered in black leather. Originally designed for Café Costes in Paris, the chair embodies Starck's pursuit of both function and elegance - only three legs to make cleaning and circulation easier, a carefully studied ergonomics, and a timeless, instantly recognizable form. Later editions added a hole in the backrest for easy handling.
