The Tazzas stand on a trumpet shaped spreading foot and the circular top has a slightly raised rim decorated with reeded bands. The top displays one of the finest engraved Armorials we have ever seen, contained in a foliate scroll, bluebell and scalework cartouche. The top is very well marked and each foot is stamped with a sterling mark. It is most unusual to find pairs of Tazzas from this period and both are in excellent condition. Timothy Ley was predominantly a mug and tankard maker, however his mark has been found on other items. He had workshops in Fenchurch Street when these fine pieces were made.
The Arms are those of the ancient family of Caley who had seats at Brompton Hall and Wydale House, both County Yorkshire. The underside is also engraved with their original scratch weight and the top displays a centre point which is always a sign of quality production, as the silversmith has taken the time to measure the piece out to make sure it is perfectly circular when made.
Diameter at the top: 5.35 inches, 13.38 cm.
Height: 1.9 inches, 4.75 cm.
Weight: 11oz.
