William III. An exceptionally rare Seventeenth Century Britannia Standard Trefid Fork mad ein London in 1697 by William Matthew

Sold

This exceptionally rare fork would have been used along side a trefid spoon and has two prongs.  The top of the stem is engraved with a set of scratch engraved marriage initials and this piece displays a very crisp set of marks.  Trefid Forks are exceptionally rare, as did not really exist until much later in the eighteenth century.  William Matthew was apprenticed to the spoon maker John Smith and was one of the most prolific spoon makers of the late seventeenth century.  This piece is in excellent condition, with a fine colour.

Length: 7.25 inches, 18.13cm
