This rare pot is modelled in the plain drum form, with a reed and bead base and a beaded rim. The cover is engraved with an outer reeded border and a central circular cartouche engraved with a Crest. The cover is also engraved with “PEPPER”. This example has a pierced fan shaped thumb piece and scroll handle. The pot has a blue glass liner and is marked on the base and the cover with the maker’s mark of William Lestourgeon. As well as being used for mustard, these pots can be found very occasionally engraved for PEPPER and would have been used for this purpose. Lestourgeon had workshops in Mouldmaker Row, St. Martin’s Le Grand when this piece was made. He also made very fine Snuff Boxes, often of innovative design.
Height: 2.6 inches, 6.5 cm.
Base Diameter: 2.45 inches, 6.13 cm
