The Nutmeg Grater is modelled in the oval form and the sides and base are decorated with crisp bright cut bands. The hinged cover displays a vacant cut cornered cartouche surrounded by floral garlands. This piece is in excellent condition and is very well marked on the cover and on the base. Phipps & Robinson were premier box makers and their work is much sought after. Similar examples are seen on the attached extract from "Nutmeg Graters, Pommanders and Spice Boxes." page 57.

MARKS : Fully marked in the cover and with the maker's mark and sterling mark on the base. Also with an additional maker's mark on the side.
