These exceptionally rare pieces display an everted, circular, wide, rim decorated with a gadrooned border. The interior displays a circular cage, with oval supports bolted into place, and an upper gadrooned support. These would have been used to keep the bottle/decanter in place. The turned, fruitwood, bases are centred by a silver circular boss engraved with a set of contemporary script initials. This is only the second pair of Decanter/Bottle cages we have offered over all of the years. Both are in excellent condition and are very well marked. Pontifex was working from premises at 13, Hosier Lane, West Smithfield, when these pieces were made. A.G. Grimwade states in "London Goldsmith's 1697-1837" that the work of Daniel Pontifex shows a high standard of execution and delicacy of design. This is shown with these pieces.
Height: 2 inches, 5cm.
