The Jug stands on a circular foot, and the lower half of the baluster main body is decorated with bold lobing below a reeded girdle.  The incuse neck is engraved with a contemporary Armorial surrounded by a foliate scroll cartouche and the sparrow beak spout is decorated with a fluted section, with pendant drop below.  The slightly domed cover rises to a lobed band and terminates in a fruitwood lobed finial with silver bell shaped top.  The scroll handle is attached to the main body with beautifully modelled serpent mouldings, very much in the manner of Paul Storr.  The cover is also engraved with a contemporary Crest.  This piece is in excellent condition and is fully marked on the underside of the base and with the sterling mark and date letter on the underside of the cover.  Richard Sibley was an outstanding maker, whose quality of design and production at its best is equal to Paul Storr, as is seen with this piece.

The Armorial and Crest are those of Sykes impaling Foulis for Tatton Sykes (1772-1863) who married Mary Anne Foulis on 19th January, 1822.  This was almost certainly made as a present to celebrate their marriage.  Tatton inherited the Baronetcy of Sykes of Sledmere and the family estates, centered on Sledmere, in Yorkshire in 1823.

Height, to the top of the handle: 9 inches.

Diameter at the widest part of the main body: 6.5 inches.

Weight: 35oz.
