The Travelling Inkwell has a broad rectangular form with a cut glass base. The beautiful silver gilt mounts, and hinged cover, display an outer rim of acorns and oak leaves. The central panel is engraved with engine turned designs, as is the screw in lock which keeps the cover in place. The central gold "Button" cartouche is engraved with a set of contemporary mirror cipher initials. The inkwell is in quite excellent condition and is well marked in three separate places. Thomas Dicks specialised in silver mounted glass and travelling vanity sets, of exceptional quality.
