A very fine early George III "Dolphin" handled Serving Slice made in London in 1767 by William Plummer.

This early Serving Slice has a triangular blade, with wavy top edge, which is pierced and engraved with scrolls, roundels and quatrefoil motifs, surrounded by linear engraving.  This Server also displays a beautifully detailed dolphin moulding where the handle is attached to the blade.  This example also has an unusual spiral section, on the handle, inbetween the dolphin section and the turned fruitwood end.  This piece is in excellent condition and is well marked on the reverse of the blade.  William Plummer was a very fine pierced worker who made excellent Serving Slices in his workshops at 47, Gutter Lane.  He had been apprentice to the very fine silversmith Edward Aldridge, who had also been a very fine pierced worker.
