This very fine piece is realistically modelled as a purse or satchel with raised clasp and side borders chased with floral and foliate motifs. The exterior is beautifully decorated with wriggle work designs and the cover displays a shield shaped cartouche, containing contemporary script initials. The interior is finely gilded and displays a grille pierced and engraved with pluming scrolls and flower heads. The cover and base are very well marked and the underside of the grille displays a crisp sterling mark.
