The Box is of a large slender oval form, with a plain silver base and sides with a protruding section at the front and stand away hinge. The cover is made of a single tortoiseshell panel inset with the most beautiful engraved silver depicting beautiful detailed flower heads, trailing vines and detailed bunches of grapes. The centre of the cover is engraved with a central swirling floral rosette. The interior displays a gilded base and the underside of the cover has a red wash, which is occasionally seen on early boxes, to give a deeper red effect to the tortoiseshell.
