Newcastle. An exceptionally rare Britannia Standard Marrow Spoon made in Newcastle circa 1712-20 by Francis Batty.

£975

The Marrow Spoon displays a rat tail on the reverse of the bowl which is also engraved with a contemporary Crest.  The stem is marked with the maker's mark, britannia mark, leaopard's head erased and the Newcastle town mark.  Francis Batty entered this Britannia Standard mark in 1712 and with the sterling standard starting in 1720, we can accurately date it to circa 1712-20.  Early Newcastle spoons are particularly rare from this early date and this piece is in excellent condition, with a very good colour.

Length: 8.25 inches, 20.63 cm
