The Snuff Box is of escutcheon form with plain sides and base and a slightly domed cover. The cover is most beautifully, and unusually, engraved with foliate scroll work, strap work and a bearded mask motif. The very top of the cover, near to the hinge, also displays finely detailed swimming dolphins, engraved to the finest standard. The base is engraved with the contemporary initials A.B and the interior displays original mellow gilding. The side of the base is also well struck with the maker's mark which is shown on page 145 of Jackson's "Gold & Silver Marks".
