This exceptional example is palely gilded and is unusually cast. The box has a slightly rounded form and is decorated all over with basket weave designs. The basket weave has niello in the design to highlight the patterning. The interior displays fine original gilding and this example is marked on the bezel. This is almost certainly the finest basket weave box we have offered over the years and it is in excellent condition. Cast pocket Snuff Boxes are rare and this is certainly the heaviest we have offered. A very fine box, by this fine specialist box maker.
