This very unusual Mustard Pot displays a reeded silver base and rim. The glass main body is beautifully decorated with a wide lower band of vertical flutes and an upper band of diamond point cutting. The base is cut with a raying star design. The harp shaped handle is also decorated with reeding and the hinged cover has a domed central section which rises to a ball finial. The interior is finely gilded and the cover is engraved with the Armorial and Motto of the Royal North Gloucestershire Militia and would have been used in the Georgian Officer's Mess.
The Mustard Pot is in excellent condition and is fully marked on the upper reeded mounts and on the underside of the cover. Joseph Ash was a very fine maker of snuff boxes and vinaigrettes, as well as finely made silver mounted glass.
Height: 3.75 inches, 9.38 cm.
Base Diameter: 2.45 inches, 6.13 cm.
