These very rare Candlesticks are cast and are modelled in a very unusual Neo Classical design, and size, most probably for use on a piano or in the bedroom, on a dressing table.  The bases have incuse sides decorated with cascading acanthus spears.  The bases rise to a tapering circular shaft decorated with vertical plain, and matted, bands bound with horizontal girdles.  The shoulders display a wide circular platform, decorated with lobing.  This rises to a tulip shaped socket, decorated with the same bands, as seen on the shaft.  The bases are engraved with a contemporary Crest and are fully marked on the underside.

The work of Henry Hallsworth is very rare and he had a very distinctive Gothic script maker’s mark.  He was a specialist candlestick maker and was apprentice to the famous candlestick maker, William Café, from 3rd March, 1762.  He had workshops in Angel Street, 1774-81, which is where these candlesticks were made.

Height: 5.9 inches, 14.75 cm.

Diameter of the base: 4 inches, 10 cm.

Weight: 17oz, the pair.
