The Dishes are circular in form with an everted rim decorated with gadrooning. The two side leaf and tie handles are attached to the main body with foliate mouldings. The high domed covers terminate in a reed and crossed branch finial. Both sides of the covers and the bases are engraved with a contemporary Armorial, with Motto below and the Coronet of an Earl above. The Dishes are of a good size and are in excellent condition. They are fully marked on all pieces.
The Arms are those of Campbell, quartering Lorn and Stewart, impaling Gavin, for John Campbell, 4th Earl of Breadalbane and Holland. Born in 1762, he was a Lt. General in the army. Fellow of the Royal Society, Scottish Representative Peer 1784 & 1806. He was created Baron Breadalbane in 1806 and Maquis of Breadalbane and Earl of Ormelie in 1831. In 1793 he married Mary, daughter of David Gavin of Langton House, Berwick. He died in 1834 and was succeeded by his eldest son. His principal seat was Taymouth Castle, County Perth.
