The Label we refer to was made in York circa 1786-90 by Richard Clark. As you will see from the images, the label is modelled in a plain large crescent form, much different to those seen from London, at this date. The label is also engraved with GIN, a title not seen in great numbers from the 18th century and certainly not from York. The Label is in exceptional condition and is very well marked on the reverse, in addition to being engraved with the contemporary initials MK to CK. As you will appreciate, Richard Clark was apprenticed to J. Malton, free in 1769, and took over Stephen Buckle's business in 1774. He retired in 1797 and labels seldom appear from his workshops.
Length: 1.9 inches.
Width: 2 inches.
