The Vinaigrette is broad rectangular in form with serpentine shaped sides. The cover and base are engraved with a very unusual sunburst design, on the cover around a scroll cartouche, engraved with script initials, and on the base around a central flower head. The sides are decorated with engine turned designs and the front side displays a cast floral and foliate thumb piece. The interior is finely gilded and displays a grille pierced and engraved with pluming scrolls and flower heads. This piece is in excellent condition and is very well marked, also displaying a makers mark on the underside of the grille. This is a most unusual design of engraving to come from the workshops of this famous box maker.
