This is the earliest Nutmeg Grater which we have offered over all of the years. The central section is tubular in form and is scratch engraved with trellis work designs which divide into two panels. The pierced tubular rasp can be kept inside and is unusually made of silver and not steel. The rasp is held inside by a removable cap which is beautifully engraved with a stylised raying flower head motif. The main body also displays two horizontal raised girdles. This piece is in quite excellent condition and displays the conjoined maker's mark of Thomas Harris II on the main body, cover and rasp. These pieces seldom appear on the market and this is only one of a handful of early tubular graters which we have handled over the years.
Length: 2.45 inches, 6.13 cm
