The Tray is of an elegant oval form, with a raised gadrooned border.  Each side is decorated with flat fluting and displays a cast scroll on the underside.  The centre is engraved with a contemporary Armorial, with coronet above, flanked by supporters.  The Motto "Nec Timere Nec Timide" is engraved below.

The Arms, Crest and Motto are those of a Duke of the Blood Royal and are specifically those of Prince William Henry 1765-1837, son of King George III and his consort Queen Charlotte.  At this date he was styled as Duke of Clarence and St. Andrews.  He ascended the throne as King William IV in June, 1830.

The Tray is in excellent condition and is very well marked on the reverse including an addition "M" mark which is a journeyman's mark for a specific individual in the workshop.  This is a very rare feature.  Thomas and Joseph Guest were very fine silversmiths, who worked in the circle of Paul Storr.  They were father and son with workshops at 17, Red Lion Street, Holborn, when this piece was made.  Their work is not seen often, however is nearly always of the finest quality.  This piece shows the quality which they were known for, being of an excellent gauge and weight.

Length: 10.5  inches.

Width: 4.1 inches.

Weight: 8oz.
